The Poetry That Led Babishai To The Queen of Buganda, Lady Sylvia Nagginda Luswata

In 2010, Beverley Nambozo Nsengiyunva awarded the second group of the Beverley Nambozo Poetry Award. The Chief guest was none other than the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, represented well by high officials.

In 2023, Beverley embarked on writing poetry that honoured iconic women, a project which later extended to include about 10 other poets, culminating into an anthology titled ‘Feeling: The Poetry Anthology eclebrating Iconic Ugandan Women. Amongst those women was The Nnabagereka of Buganda, Lady Sylvia Nagginda Luswata.

Beverley requested a visit to deliver the Queen’s personalised copy. The day finally arrived.  Not only did The Nnabegereka receive an autographed copy but a personal recitation of the poem as well. It was a delightful, celebratory and memorable occasion, delivering poetry to The Queen and it is the first of many dignified visits across the globe.

Preparations for The Poetry Anthology

This year, as you most likely already know, we are elated to have another publication in our docket. With an unusual and novel theme, celebrating notable Ugandan women and girls who have achieved remarkable milestones in their work, impacting thousands.

Below at Kampala International School Uganda, facilitating a poetry workshop and sharing a glimpse into our poetry anthology.

At Victoria University with young professionals and students, sharing the work of Ugandan women, especially those who have directly impacted their own journey.

The preparations have taken turns that we did not expect. Firstly, the anthology has doubled in size. With increased conservations, celebrations of women and girls in the news and in celebrated magazines and travelling across Uganda, more individuals came to light What a  rewarding experience!

The editing process has taken this turn.

We relish every step in this anthology and we know that you are looking forward to holding the book in your hands. We’re almost there.
